Connie Chung shared the exciting news that her and Maury Povich’s son is engaged!
While appearing on TODAY with Hoda & Jenna on Sept. 16, the journalist revealed that her son, Matthew, whom she adopted with husband Maury Povich, is getting married.
Chung told co-hosts Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager that her son proposed to his girlfriend, Hunter, after nine and a half years of dating.
“He’s just like mom and dad,” Chung said of her son. “Maury and I were together seven years before both of us got on the same page.”
Chung, who is celebrating her 40th wedding anniversary with the former television host in December, reflected on when she first found out their adoption had gone through. It happened around the same time she was fired from her job on “CBS Evening News” in 1995.
Chung also touched on motherhood, saying, “I don’t see myself as becoming a mom.”
“To me, having our son, and having him attached to my arm, was all about him. It’s not all about me being a mom,” she said.
Chung continued, “And that is the most wonderful thing because I was concentrating on myself and my job and everything. I was so self-absorbed. And then, all the sudden, I’m pouring all my love into this beautiful baby.”
Matthew Povich has two step sisters from Maury Povich’s first marriage. Before tying the knot with Chung in 1984, Maury Povich had been married to Phyllis Minkoff, whom he shares daughters Susan and Amy with, according to People.
