Lakers guard D’Angelo Russell missed practice on Tuesday

Los Angeles Lakers guard D’Angelo Russell struggled a lot with his shooting for most of the first eight games of this season. It was apparently a factor in head coach JJ Redick moving him to the bench before Friday’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers.

The move has worked, at least for now. Russell has shot well in two games as a reserve, and the Lakers have won both of them, which has improved their season record to 6-4.

Unfortunately, Russell didn’t take part in the team’s practice on Tuesday because of an illness. It will host the Memphis Grizzlies, a team that blew it out just days ago in Tennessee on Wednesday.

There has seemingly been some sort of illness going around the Lakers’ roster lately. LeBron James had some cold-like symptoms about two weeks ago, and forward Rui Hachimura missed that last game versus Memphis due to illness.

Russell has shot a combined 13-of-25 and scored 33 points in the last two games while coming off the bench. He has given L.A.’s bench some much-needed scoring punch — it had one of the NBA’s very worst benches in terms of scoring when Redick removed Russell from the starting lineup.
