Tennessee High School Football Rankings: Top 25 Teams – September 16

The latest update to the rankings in high school for the state of Tennessee by On3’s Massey Ratings didn’t shift too much following last week’s results. However, they do now set up several top-rated matchups across the state for this week.

In total, 11 teams didn’t move or moved no more than a single spot, including eight re-shuffling in the Top-10 with both No. 1 and No. 2, who are both Top-100 teams nationally, along with No. 3 and No. 4 swapping out for one another.

With that, Tennessee will have three games between teams in the Top-25 for this upcoming Friday. Four more will be games featuring opponents that are each in the Top-40.

Here’s how On3’s Massey Ratings look now in Tennessee as of the update on the morning of September 16th:

Previous Ranking: 2
With a 30-point road win in a Top-15 matchup, Baylor School reclaimed No. 1 in the rankings for Tennessee following a 37-7 victory over Lipscomb Academy. The Red Raiders brought their balanced offensive attack with them to Nashville as they posted 404 yards of offense – 230 yards in passing and 174 yards in rushing with two scores apiece in each aspect by four separate weapons. They also kept the Mustangs from reaching 200 total yards while forcing a turnover as well. Now that they’ve gotten back to the top spot, they’ll return home this week for a game against Christian Brothers.

Previous Ranking: 1
Oakland fell back a spot back to No. 2 despite their own 41-14 win over Antioch for homecoming. They jumped out to a 27-0 lead and never looked back with that being the final margin of the game in the end. Much of that came on the backs of the rushing attack from Tamari Hill and Craig Tutt. The Patriots will now open region play this week in a Top-40 matchup in Murfreesboro between them and Blackman.

Previous Ranking: 4
CPA moved up a spot to No. 3 with a Top-15 road win over Montgomery Bell Academy at 34-6. Owen Cabell got it started with a touchdown catch from 50 yards out before Rawls Patterson carried them the rest of the way with 183 yards and a career high-tying three touchdowns on the night. That now sets up a Top-40 game where they’ll host Battle Ground Academy at the end of the week.

Previous Ranking: 3
Although dropping one slot to No. 4, Houston is still 4-0 after their 42-3 win over Cordova last week. Chandler Day continued to carry the Mustangs with three more touchdowns while their defense forced a pair of turnovers, including a fumble recovery in the end zone. With that 39-point victory, they’ll prepare to now host Whitehaven for a Top-30 game.

Previous Ranking: 7
For the first time all season, Maryville finally gave up some points as they didn’t shut out their latest opponent. However, they still scored more than enough to win at 35-14 over Knoxville West on the road in a Top-25 matchup to move into the top-five this season. At 5-0 now, the Rebels are set up for another game against a Top-25 opponent at Science Hill this week.

Previous Ranking: 5
McCallie opened class play last week with a 37-7 win over Memphis University School. Elliott Drapeau threw five touchdowns in the 30-point win with him finding four different targets on those scores with each coming from over 20-plus yards out. The Blue Tornadoes will now play one of the biggest games in the state this week, if not the biggest, when they host Brentwood Academy in a Top-10 meeting.

Previous Ranking: 6
Ensworth put up their second consecutive shutout with a 35-0 victory over Knoxville Catholic in a Top-20 matchup away. They’ll now host a Top-15 matchup in Nashville when Lipscomb Academy comes to them.

Previous Ranking: 8
Ravenwood maintained their spot in the Top-10 behind a 42-9 victory over Smyrna. The Raptors posted 224 rushing yards on the night with a career-high of 115 yards, at 8.9 yards per carry, and two scores on the ground for Maverick Chance. They’ll now go back on the road this week for a game at Overton.

Previous Ranking: 10
After a Top-10 loss to open the season, Brentwood Academy has won their last three, which includes two over ranked opponents with their latest being a 31-2 win over Father Ryan. They allowed a safety in the second quarter to be up only 7-2 at the break but then scored 24 unanswered in the second half to take it by 29. The Eagles will now go to Chattanooga to open region play in that highly-rated matchup between them and McCallie School on Friday.

Previous Ranking: 15
Besides a Top-10 loss to BA, Brentwood is also 3-1 after a close 7-6 win over Henry County. Despite coming by a sole point, that still got them into the Top-10 in Tennessee this week. That’ll also set them up for region play starting this week for them down in Spring Hill when they go to play Summit.
